Two years ago my daughter Amber was born. She was a healthy, beautiful, baby girl, and I was determined to be the best mum I could be.
I breastfed, made sure I ate a healthy, well balanced diet, and did my best to ensure she got everything she needed to build a solid foundation for good health.
Then came the weaning stage... and that's when my troubles started!
I tried cooking healthy meal recipes I found online… They mostly ended up on the floor!
I tried all the usual airplane noises and…. "if you don't eat this mummy will..." games... She dug her heals in deeper.
I asked for tips and advice from close family members and friends… Their suggestions conflicted and none of it really worked.
I felt like a failure, and found myself asking "what was I doing wrong?"
How can a trained nutritionist fail SO miserably?
With my confidence shaken, I knew I needed a different approach that leveraged all my training and experience.
That's when it struck me!
I'd been through ALL this before...
...while working with a group of Autistic adults.
These were grown men that tantrumed, threw food on the floor, and generally resisted eating anything healthy in exactly the same way Amber did.
And I had helped them overcome their anxieties. Within a couple of months, I had them happily eating a wide range of healthy, home cooked meals (which made such a dramatic improvement to their quality of life).
That's when I realised that…

just like I had to with my Autistic guys.

So I knew I had to help Amber build confidence, and make mealtimes fun, just as I had with my Autistic guys.
But I had LIMITED experience working with young children and paediatric feeding. My motivation levels were at an all time low, and I was already struggling to find the energy to keep the day job going.
